Gear that's been added 4000+ autopilot 2010C GPS port cabin top winch harken deck organizers spinlock clutches 6:1 main sheet to winch harken roller furling all ports and companionway have been replaced with lexan
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features The comfort of the cabin is the best!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The cabintop centerline port consistently leaks. I have talked with Hunter and tried everything they have suggested. I believe that if I add a piece of metal to the center of the lexan and attach this to the frame of the port, I may be able to give the stability for a permanent seal.
Sailing characterisitcs There is a lot of sail area and the main has to be reefed early to maintain a flat sail. We have a 165 genoaa and use this in place of a spinnaker. Because we are small women sailing the boat, we have had to make some changes in the rigging to allow more purchase.
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar 16hp does not provide the power necessary for this size boat.
Liveability Great! We have set the boat up for a comfortable livability. The head has a 20 gal capacity and this is the only problem. The water capacity is huge and the hot water stays warm for a very long time.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very good. Hunter has tried to be as helpful as possible. The people in the service department are very knowledgable.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any That was okay. We bought from the Moorings and they really did not help with the boat, other than putting the boat in the water. But we would probably recommend them to our friends.
Other comments This boat is a diamond in the rough. With a 53 foot mast above the waterline, the sail area can be overwhelming! But if you take your time and reef early, the rewards can be terrific. The boat has very good sails and that makes the sailing a great ride!
