Review of the Hunter 23 by Seth Cruver

Year built 1987
Location of boat greenwood lake,nj
The boat is sailed on Rivers
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? without the shadow of a doubt.
Gear that's been added rebuilt A-frames for mast raising system, replaced scews for companionway step, which was moved back slightly.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features very roomy, small enough to trailer, yet comfortable enough to keep 10 or 12 people aboard comfortably. hatch on front makes for easy sail hank-on. (dont have roller furling or jib bag,but putting the jib up is really easy.)
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. compaionway hatch leaks. quick fix involves a tarp and bungee cords.
Sailing characterisitcs boat runs nice in most weather it's been in. never had to fight with the sails too much in heavier winds, the winches keep them from slipping. keeps a good sail from close hauled to beam reach,is a torrid going downwind.
Motoring characterisitcs once motored down our lake at night. new 9.9 tracker motor makes good speeds once it warms up. had to replace fuel bulb in 2004 because original split.
Liveability spent a weekend with friends while it was on trailer to test this sort of thing. slept with one eye open, but otherwise pretty nice. could have had a bigger table.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
