Review of the Hunter 26 by Richard Grove

Year built 1995
Location of boat Huntington Lake
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 5-6
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1995
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely! I have never regretted buying this boat. It sail great for my needs. It hauls enough stuff for my wife's needs, and is very forgiving of my indescretions.
Gear that's been added CDI furler, Lazy Jacks, all controls to cockpit. Added the stern seats at time of purchase. Added tiller extension.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Roominess. The windage is costly on slow speed manuvering, but it is my summer cottage on the lake.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I have had no problems with anything in the design. The boat lacks good access to add new wiring or major modifications.
Sailing characterisitcs Points higher than the Catalinas and Schocks and San Juans in our sailingg group. It is usually the first to anchor in the cove. Then every one wants to come aboard because there is more room for guests on our boat. The cockpit table comes in handy with guests.
Motoring characterisitcs The ofset motor makes for good manuvering. Straight ahead is easy once the motor and ruder are trimmed.
Liveability Lots of room below. We have room for 6 around the dining table. I took out the cheap foam matress and added a queen sized mattress. Sleeps great. The Pop up top and the camper canvas make for enjoyable living quarted while anchored.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) My boat was vandalized and one of the large plexiglass windows was shattered. Eddie at hunter qas most helpful in shipping me the window and also offering advice on installation. Supplied the proper adhesives and coached on the technique. Had a problem with the winch on the trailer not being heavy enough. Shipped me a new larger winch. didn't want the old one back.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought from a dealer. He brought the boat up to the lake where I live, rigged it demo'd it and then came back in 30 days to check everything over again. Great service before and after the sale and sail.
Other comments Well designed boat. It is a compromise that fits my needs and wants like a glove. Company has always been helpful, even if I just needed info and didn't spend any money at the moment.
