Review of the Hunter 23 by bill carr

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Prior to purchasing my current boat, I spent most of the winter looking at many boats. The previous two owners kept the boat in great condition.  
Gear that's been added Since this is my first boat, each time I go out, I am trying to learn as much as I can. I spend much of my time soloing. Next year I am going to a roller fullering.  
Structural or complex improvements no  
The boat's best features Compared to the Oday23, and the Catalina 22, I think the H23 has a better set up. The shallow draft of the wing keel enhances performance without. This website has provided me with a wealth of knowledge about hunters.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The mountings of the rudder have needed to be redone. I am going to add a stronger engine mount for next year.  
Sailing characterisitcs The boat can become over powered very easily. Dpending on the wind, there can be excessive amounts of helm. However, the boat resonds vey well in light winds. Overall, the performance of the boats has been great!!!  
Motoring characterisitcs I am using the nissan 5hp. It does a great job getting the boat onto the lake. The downside to this is that the motor struggles to keep the boat going in 2-4 waves.  
Liveability I have only spent a few nights on board by myself. There is plenty of room. The set up of the cabin is great. The Oday23 offers mre room. The Catalina 22 is about the same. I like the look of the inside. All of the wood gives the boat a traditional look.

Other comments For a 1986 model, the boat still looks good.
