Review of the Hunter 19_81-83 by jim sullivan

Year built 1993
Location of boat cedar key, florida
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? definitely. it serves my purposes very well. It's compact, solid, fast, and turns on a dime. And most important it's shallow draft
Gear that's been added sailcovers, depth indicator, compass, heel indicator, d.c. outlet, tiller tamer
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features sails well upwind with centerboard up
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. stepping the mast, the shroud anchor points (swivels) get caught if you're not careful. I've solved this by using small bungies to hod the shrouds up when I'm stepping the mast
Sailing characterisitcs I've heeled this boat over to 30 degrees, but its not stable there, too short a hull I guess. Will move right along at 15 degrees in a good wind.
Motoring characterisitcs motors ok with a 5 hp
Liveability no experience here, long trips etc., but its comfortable and roomy below
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) good. I needed a part from them and got it right away
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any got it from a private party.
