Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Dylan Ross

Year built 1984
Location of boat Raritan Bay, NJ/NY
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? So far...yes. I've only had it half a season, but I'm quite pleased.
Gear that's been added Garman GPS 276c, 15" Magma Grill/Stove, and a cockpit speaker for the VHF.
Structural or complex improvements None.
The boat's best features Great interior design with lots of stowage. Feels bigger than a 27 footer below deck. The sail plan is well balanced, and the boat is quite responsive.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Access to some of the through-hulls are awkward.
Sailing characterisitcs Easy to sail. We have the shoal draft keel and, the boat does not point upwind well. Self-tailing winches and an adjustable traveler would greatly enhance performance and sailability. On a reach, the boat is suprisingly fast.
Motoring characterisitcs Westerbeke 10 seems okay, maybe a bit under powered. Has a lot of vibration in mid-range of RPMs. There is major prop walk in reverse. Don't expect to be able to control direction in reverse until the boat gets some speed.
Liveability Comfortable for a couple for week long crusing. Four people max for a weekend. The holding tank is not very big. The ice box is huge, but expect to add ice often. The V-bearth is quite comfortable for two, while the port and starboard settees are a bit narrow.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No experiance.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Private sale.
