Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Ed Tamara

Year built 1983
Location of boat Miami Fl
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1992
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I would buy a larger boat, it could be a HunterI had an accident with it and ended upwith an old NEW hunter, new riggingnew motor, new bottom etc
Gear that's been added oversize standing rigging,roller furlingnew sails,new motor,macerator,showerelectronics,bow roller,pedestal guard,cruising spinnaker,epoxy bottom etc
Structural or complex improvements I installed a cabin top traveller replacingthe old triangular set up.I replaced the rudder stock wich was alittle bit sloppyalso cut away a little bit of the rudderitself to acomodate a larger 2 bladeprop
The boat's best features good light weather sailorfast in 8 to 12 miles per hourheavier boat than the new ones
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I had a number of blisters that i triedto fix in a number of occasions andthey kept coming backthe boat leaks water and haven't been able to find the entrance pointthe bilges are way too small or shallowand any kind of heeling gets the waterin them all over the place
Sailing characterisitcs from nonexisting wind to 25 to 35 milesper hour and 8 to 10 foot waves in a trip to the Dry Tortugas.
Motoring characterisitcs I have the boat in a river and going down on it I have to open 8 bridges and"bullfight" the tugboats hauling bigships up the river or downI had to motor in 35 or more mph windon the nose and ended up going backwards ( I had my old 1GM Yanmar)so I had to sail back with a little bit ofmy Jib and the motor
Liveability Not very good, there is only my wife and I we are not very big but we keep on stepping in each other toesperhaps a 30 or 35 would be better
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I haven't done it don't know how they areIn the latest Miami boat show I found the salesmen not very knowledgeable
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any private sale
