Review of the Hunter 146 by Tony Price

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Bought an old (25 years young)CL16 3 years ago for learning in and sailing on Lake Ontario. Decided to buy a similar size new boat for use at our cottage and found the 146 to be a good price, low maintenance (I leave the boat moored at the dock) and easily rigged (bought a sail-cover). Fun and exciting to sail. Sales people (Quiet Waters near Barrie Ontario) were very helpful.  
Gear that's been added Small electric Minn Kota Endura Trolling Motor (30 lb thrust)just to get up the channel to the dock. Small block for outhaul. Wind-direction indicator on top of mast. Ticklers. Mesh net under bow cover to hold safety equipment. Sail cover.  
Structural or complex improvements No  
The boat's best features Moves well in little wind. Moves fast in stronger winds. Rain water drains out of self baler. Sharp looking (received several compliments). Only takes a few minutes to get ready.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing (yet).  
Sailing characterisitcs Very responsive. Heads up in a stronger wind, but controllable. A little tippier than my old CL16 - but that will just take getting used to! My wife (as crew) is constantly moving as the wind changes a lot around the islands on our lake.  
Motoring characterisitcs N/A  
Liveability Sailing dinghy! I guess you could put a tarp over the boom, but not much room.

The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought from Quiet Waters in Penetanguishene, Ontario. Very nice, friendly, helpful people. Gave us a grand tour of the boat which was all ready for us when we went for pickup.  
Other comments No place to store emergency equipment. Added a mesh net under cover in bow.
