Review of the Hunter 240 by Jason

Year built 2003
Location of boat Columbia, SC
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Sure! The first 3 trips out have been great. We have launched and retrieved from the trailer, used slips, sailed in high wind, and even lowered the mast using the system. So far so good, and we are looking forward to using the boat more!
Gear that's been added We added the 8hp motor, bimini top, roller furling, cloth seats.
Structural or complex improvements Not yet.
The boat's best features The ease of trailering is very nice and it looks awesome!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The motor has been frustrating. I think a little tune up would straighten everything out.
Sailing characterisitcs We have sailed in light lake wind, and fairly heavy lake wind as well. It seems to handle very well with the water ballast, and the reefing system came in handy too.
Motoring characterisitcs Fair. The 8hp pull start is ok....once you get it started. The ability to turn the motor has helped in tight spots.
Liveability We haven't lived on it, but both side cushions are comfy, and the stern living area looks big enough for a sleepover.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Oh Yea. I got the boat from Select Yachts - Connie Berchem. I have to say, from start to finish, it was awesome. I didn't know what to expect, and we didn't start as expert sailors, but Connie cheerfully answered every question and even took us on the maiden voyage to demo the features! 3 weeks later when we readied the boat for transport, she gave more time to show us the mast lowering system - after she raced all day. Thanks again Connie!
Other comments So far we have been pleased with the boat.
