Review of the Hunter 37-cutter by David Ashburn

Year built 1979
Location of boat Kentucky Lake
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 5-6
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I love this Hunter.
Gear that's been added New VHF radio Waste Water treatment System Refrigerator Air conditioner
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Large fuel and water tank Heavy duty standing rigging Heavy or thick lay up
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Door is low going into the V birth
Sailing characterisitcs very close to the wind sailing
Motoring characterisitcs No problems at all. The boat was repowered with a Yanmar 20 hp prior to me buying. It is a little underpowered but works well for my lake use.
Liveability It is fine for 2 people any more and I do not like the size. We have slept 8 but it is not comfortable for any length of time.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have not
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I did not
Other comments I like the older hunters.
