Review of the Hunter 44 by OLIVER DOWNEY

Year built 2004
Location of boat Huntington NY
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added Full Raymarine Package Dodger , Bimini with Side panels
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Spaciousness and plush accomadations Very easy access to engine
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Poor access for changing impeller on seawater pump. Very poor level of workmanship used to install door locks on cockpit lockers, no doubt the result of using cheap labor. On a new boat I use my handy pocket knife to close the misalligned locks. The tank guages were not calibrated. I had to pay Sea-Tow $215 to bring out 5 gallons of diesel fuel when taking the boat home from Dealer
Sailing characterisitcs So far I find it very predictable
Motoring characterisitcs She quickly turns to port when I let go of the wheel at say 3000 rpm
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The usual promises. Then having to chase after them to get work done. I dont Know of anyone who has had a good expierience with a dealer
Other comments I would like Hunter to install all options just as the Car makers such as Ford or GM do.
