Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Tom Thayer

Year built 1982
Location of boat Lake Erie
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1996
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, Ireally enjoy it. I had a Hunter 23 which ibougt new in 1985. This is a much stiffer, sturdier, and more comfortable.
Gear that's been added Rollerfurling. A 170 genoa. A full batten main.An autopilot. Larger wheel. New compass and depth sounder. New sheets. GPS. Battery charger. New head.
Structural or complex improvements Redid the head plumbing.
The boat's best features Stiffness. Style. Easy to handle solo.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Port plastic breaking. Leaks.
Sailing characterisitcs Stiff, hardly ever have to reef the main. Easy to trim where it will hold course by itself with the wheel locked. The higher the wind the better it goes.
Motoring characterisitcs Noise from diesel. Vibrations. Could use a little larger engine but always starts right up and is miserly on fuel.
Liveability Good two person liveability for short vacations.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very good when I had problems with my rudder on my 1985 Hunter 23.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Out of business now.
