Review of the Hunter 240 by Miles

Year built 2004
Location of boat Chesapeake Bay
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it's a water ballasted, trailerable, crusing boat. I usually sail from my home off the Chesapeake Bay, all over the bay and adjacent waters, including Delaware, N. J. Va.
Gear that's been added Bimini
Structural or complex improvements None, well satisfied
The boat's best features Water ballast so I can tow it. Hunter's Company representatives and dealers have been most helpful. Simple to rig and sail, as I quite often solo. Comfortable for it's size. Well built and well equipted.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The rudder blade. I believe it was faulty or not properly installed and had to replace it.
Sailing characterisitcs Handles well for it's size both under sail and power. Simple to sail and handle.
Motoring characterisitcs Well pleased
Liveability Comfortable for it's size
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They were most helpful
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Well pleased, would recommend them and use them again if I change boats
Other comments I wasn't sure which water ballast model I wanted to sail and tow, so in 1993 bought a 23.5, was well pleased, but figured, I could use more room and a larger boat, so moved up to the 26, in 1996, pleased with it, but getting older and a liile more than I felt I needed or wanted so, in 2001, bought a 212, it was a real fun boat easy to sail and tow, but very limited cabin accomadations, so in 2003 I bought the 240, I now have, sailed it very extensively and am well pleased. I can cruise and stay aboard even if cozy and look forward to alot more fun.
