Review of the Hunter 426DS by Jeffrey Chabot

Year built 2003
Location of boat Cruising
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Blue water, extended passages
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definately NO, endless OEM problems
Gear that's been added We have literally put all the toys on board from vertually every option Hunter offered to A top notch Raymarine system.
Structural or complex improvements Hard Topwith sky lights, semi hard dodger, full glasine cockpit curtins making a very cozy pilot house, dull KIss wind generators, 760 amp house bank. Large custom teak nav station, SeaGull Pure water filtration. Momentary swithces for the Vacu Flush heads,
The boat's best features Their Customer Service and Sales support people
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Alternator, gen set, water maker, replace both the refrig and freezer at different times, keel voids and leaks, windlass and bowsprit anchor deployment problems. chrger inverter, hower leaks, plumbing leaks and just on and on all in less than a year
Sailing characterisitcs We just love her, we are now crusing with her and consistently sail and think little of 15 to 30 knot winds.
Motoring characterisitcs The yanmar is a little noiser that I would expect and runs hotter that I'd expect. She is very efficient, but feel she should have much more fuel capacity than 50 hrs of motoring range.
Liveability She is very spacious and was easy to make our crusing home and not feel like you were living in a cave, which is a complaint of many associate crusiers, which is a major reason we gravitated to the 426DS was space not only for the 2 of us but great storage as well.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Sailing Specialties, Bristol, RI was and has continued to be just fantastic.
