Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by John Fletter

Year built 1980
Location of boat Holland, Michigan
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in Othe
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. I had a trailerable Catalina before that was extremely tight to stay a week or even a weekend aboard.
Gear that's been added Added a GPS, a microwave and lazy jacks. Plan on upgrading to a furling this next year. Have made several improvements to the Merriman wheel. I had the compass rebuilt.
Structural or complex improvements I was not happy with the AC/DC provisions on the boat. I added a DC charger and a second battery to the boat with a 2 position switch. I also added several AC outlets to the boat. The sliding head door was impossible. I replaced the track and wittled the bottom down so the DAMN thing would close and lock. ( I need my privacy! )
The boat's best features Beam width. Stability while sailing. Ease of running rigging. Mine has everything run to the cockpit.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I love my boat!
Sailing characterisitcs This is not the fastest boat I have ever been aboard, but, my children are happy below. It is stable and durable. I have been out in 20 to 40 mph winds and felt safe. ( And no one has yakked yet! )
Motoring characterisitcs I do wish I had more than a small Renault inboard. It is sometimes a chore and small gift from God to get into the pier.
Liveability We have spent a week and a few days aboard with no problem. I am 6'1
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) This is going to be one of my negative comments. I have tried to contact Hunter by phone, mail and email to buy stripes for my boat. I have yet to hear from them yet over the last year.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
