Review of the Hunter 326 by Greg Gillam

Year built 2003
Location of boat Michigan City In
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes So far it's been a pleasure to own with the new features compared to my old boat 1987 31' Hunter just the air and heat system alone has increased our time on the boat. Also I'm impressed with the Selton mast and furling system aboard , in that I now have the infuling main.Lord what pleasure and security doing it all from the cockpit. There are some small bugs as there is with all new purchases of this nature but I'm sure with the dealer network and factory it self we get through them. We take it out on a rough water cruise 25-30 knot winds and 6-8 ft waves on Lake Michigan needing to understand how she would handle , not wanting to get caught in this with out a pratice run under our belts. What I can say is that it handled the weather without a problem. Reefing was easy and she could stay pointed high up into the wind She almost seemed build for this kind of run.Wasn't tender in the wind like the 1987 hunter we had. Just over all a good soild investment
Gear that's been added None we basically brought it loaded all the bells and whistles
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Air and heat , large aft cabin and the in mast main
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We've had a leak in the V berth area , I found it was cause from poor fit in the railing where the wiring comes down into the cabin. Easy fix but shouldn't have been there in the first place , small precaution could stop this from happening in the future, sealant on these areas. Just a few drops no wet walls no stains, remember they are white walls
Sailing characterisitcs Over all pleasureable and easy to sail even single handed with all the lines coming back to the cockpit , not as good down wind but ok I guess will see more this season
Motoring characterisitcs Add a three blade prop best thing we did. I believe better response in that more speed and power giving you more control even on backing up or so it feels
Liveability Good
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Yes, and so far excellent and helpful
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any It was good to find a dealership that did what they said and that said what they mean. No fills or guessing what was mean by what was said. If you had a concern all you have to do is call(Pollard's Landing ) and you got help
