Review of the Hunter 356 by Marguerite Becker

Year built 2003
Location of boat Portland, Oregon
The boat is sailed on Rivers
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes.
Gear that's been added 3 blade Max Prop, and too many little things to list.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features The storage.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. My only real complaint is the performance of the furling main sail. We previously owned a Hunter 320 and had no problems with that furling main. The leech flutter is obnoxious, and just too difficult to get rid of. We're looking into a verticle batten main.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat handles well. With only one season though, there are still many conditions we haven't run into. But I don't expect problems from what we've experienced.
Motoring characterisitcs We put a 3 blade Max prop on the boat, and our motoring is just fine. Lots of control.
Liveability Works really well for two people. When our teenage daughter is along, it's fine. I would not want to spend a month with another couple though. Maybe a week, but no more.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Haven't really had to do that.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Really good. Purchased from The Sailing Life in Portland, Oregon.
Other comments Just love it.l
