Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Don Huber

Location of boat Olympia, Washington
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer

Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely......very happy with the boat
Gear that's been added New rubber dinghy ......
Structural or complex improvements Mast steps....larger fuel filter....electric fuel pump.
The boat's best features The way the boat rides the water. It really sets in the water well. Nice lines. Also it takes the wind real well, the boat is really forgiving. I have had it through some moderately active conditions out on the straits of Juan de fuca, up by Vancouver BC. The boat really sets into the waves nice, really stable.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I plan to change the drain holes in the cock pit area. I want larger holes. I notice when washing the boat that the water trapped in the cock-pit takes to long to drain. If in a bad storm or a wave was to swamp the cock-pit it would take to long to drain with the two small drain holes that are presently there now.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails best and the fastest at about 15-18 degrees, any more then that and it becomes harder to control by the rudder.
Motoring characterisitcs I have the sb8 .....its a single lunger, I do alot of motoring and its really dependable. I don't mind it being a little under powered. It still pushs the 8000 Ib boat through the water just fine. And I have found that it uses about 1 gallon of diesel every three hours of running time. 1/3 gallon per hour is great mileage!!!
Liveability Very comfortable, I like the way its layed out. I have seen larger boats with less liveable space.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments Really glad that I made the decision to purchase my h27. It continues to give me outstanding performance, and it builds my confidence and trust in its structual durability.
