Review of the Hunter 19_81-83 by chris renner

Year built 1981
Location of boat eagle creek res.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes I would. It is a great day sailor. It is light weight so it can be towed behind a car, no truck needed. It has a very large cockpit for that size of a boat so it is easy to take people out, and it is set up to sail solo too. No hassles, just fun days on the lake.
Gear that's been added Yes, but it has just been little stuff. Like some new rigging and a motor. It is a two horse power and it pushes her just fine.
Structural or complex improvements no.
The boat's best features The cockpit of the 19 is the best feature. For a small boat alot of people can sail in comfort. Also, the ease of transportation.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I have had problems with the drain in the cockpit. It seems to have a hard time exiting the water. Not much of a prblem lake sailing though.
Sailing characterisitcs She is a heeler. Not bad sail area, but she is not keeping up with a J.
Motoring characterisitcs Since I have installed the motor I have had no problems, and it is alot faster getting in and out of the docks.
Liveability Well, she is an 81. I have redone the teak and vert glassed the hull and she looks like a year old boat. Besides a few cracks in the fiberglass, I think she is good for at least another 10 years.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have not.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought the boat from a private owner.
Other comments It is my favorite daysailer I have ever been on.
