Review of the Hunter 90 by Anthony Kearney

Year built 1993
Location of boat Mamaronek, NY
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1992
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I would have used the 150 Gennie that the previous owner had made for the boat. After my 110 blew out, I substituted the 150 while the 110 was being repaired and presto, the boat did not round up into the wind uncontrollably anymore when the wind went above 15 knots unexpectedly. The boat was better balanced with more sail aft of the mast. Now I would not hesitate to recommend the boat to a new purchaser provided they had a 150 on board.
Gear that's been added
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Easy to sail solo.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. 110 jib results in unsafe rounding up into the wind when the wind reached 15 knots. A 150 Gennie results in a better balancing of the boat and much less weather helm!
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs Very good.
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
