Review of the Hunter 26.5 by Sally Van Dyke

Year built 1987
Location of boat Port Charlotte,Florida
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes!
Gear that's been added nothing substantial
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features Love the cockpit layout, and the cabin is roomy. Handles like a small boat, very fast and turns easily. Beautiful boat!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Outboard motor controls are not great. Never work very well. Could do without the open transom, and have the outboard located center.
Sailing characterisitcs love the boat, it sails great and feels very solid.
Motoring characterisitcs No problem, except when I can't get the cockpit control to cooperate and have to hang off the transom ladder to pull the start cord. -Don't have to use the outboard much here .
Liveability may be ok for one person full time, a week or so would be fine for two .
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any good dealings, bought in Cortez ,Florida
Other comments what a great boat! for all around sailing, teaching, racing, or weekend cruising don't think there is a better choice.
