Review of the Hunter 26 by Michael Sager

Year built 1994
Location of boat Illinois
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in Deal
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? In a heartbeat !
Gear that's been added I've added roller furling, in the fall I'm adding stern rails, and possibly wheel steering
Structural or complex improvements None needed. The only improvements I've made have been for reason of esthetics. Coat hooks, magazine racks, decorations. One of the most novel things about the interior is that I've placed pictures along the cabin bulkheads. It is lined with material similiar to the fuzzy side of velcro, so I just put the other half of the velcro system on the back of the snapshots and they hang wherever you place them, easily. I was amazed at how many people come aboard and marvel at my system. It really spruces up the cabin.
The boat's best features It's fast and responsive, it's comfortable for over nighting, easy on and off the trailer, lots of room for easy living aboard. It's wide and strudy
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The tiller extender keeper needs to be made of a sturdier material. The attachment of the roller furler on the top of the mast needs to be designed so that it is easier for single-handed mast raising. It needs to designed so that water doesn't penetrate the passageway during storms.
Sailing characterisitcs Tracks well when properly sail trimmed, very fast and handles well in rough water
Motoring characterisitcs Easily maneuvered when outboard is locked down and using only the rudder.
Liveability It's very comfortable for two people to weekend on, with ample storage for food and water. Lots of handy storage when properly used.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Dealing with the Hurter people is an absolute nightmare ! It takes them forever to ship you parts, and they seem to never get the orders correct.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought my Hunter from the only dealer in St Louis, and it was an excellant experience. They are kind and very helpful, It is a shame that they have to work with such dopes at the factory...
