Review of the Hunter 26 by Paul

Year built 1995
Location of boat Gosport, England
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1995
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would, However if the Hunter 260 with the inboard engine was around when we purchased ours we would of prefered that.
Gear that's been added Sprayhood, makes the cockpit very cozy in the English weather.NAVICO Tiller PilotGARMIN 120 GPSNAVICO VHFPLASTIMO 110 Compass
Structural or complex improvements NO
The boat's best features The turn of speed for a 26 foot yacht. The maximising of space below, being airy and lovely to live in.The ability to lift the keel and nip across harbour bars. The ease of sailing singlehanded or as a couple.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. When wiring the VHF/GPS there is no dedicated wiring conducts. The boat suffers from excess windage at slow speeds when manoeuvering in marinas. However in reverse it spins on a sixpence. There is a lack of midships cleats for berthing purposes. The rudder skeg could be deeper for better handling. The lack of electrolysis protection is a worry and am investigating that at this time.
Sailing characterisitcs Sail all year-round. Portsmouth, Solent, Southcoast, Channel Crossing and The Channel Islands. Wind strengths from light airs to Force 7.
Motoring characterisitcs As before mentioned in
Liveability Every summer my wife and I fit in a two to three week cruise happily living aboard with it amenities. She is a joy to cruise in and to relax in any port.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Excellent. However the Hunters Owners Manual lacks importmant information reference the electrical fittings, their wattage etc.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
