Review of the Hunter 18.5 by K. WOOD

Year built 1988
Location of boat CARLYLE, ILLINOIS
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES, IT WAS MY FIRST BOAT OF ANY KIND. IT'S BEEN A GREAT BOAT TO LEARN ON....VERY FORGIVING. OF COURSE, THE BOAT OF MY DREAMS WOULD HAVE BEEN A BIGGER HUNTER.
Gear that's been added JUST UPDATED SAFETY EQUIPMENT, REFINISHED ALL THE WOOD AND REPLACED THE COMPANIONWAY WITH SOME NICE OAK PANELS.
Structural or complex improvements NO
The boat's best features FOR A SMALL BOAT IT CAN OFFER CHALLANGES WITHOUT BEING OVERWHELMING. THE CABIN IS ROOMY FOR ITS SIZE....GREAT FOR GETTING OUT OF THE SUN OR OVERNIGHTS FOR SEVERAL PEOPLE.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. LINES DON'T LEAD TO THE COCPIT. IT CAN BE A HAZARDOUS FOR SAILING SINGLE HANDED IN STRONGE WIND. NO ELEC SYSTEM FOR LIGHTS
Sailing characterisitcs MAINLY LIGHT TO MODERATE WINDS
Motoring characterisitcs THE MOTOR IS A 1989 4HP MERCURY SAILPOWER. HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN AND WAS UNRELIABLE UNTILL I INVESTED IN AN OVERHALL.
Liveability GOOD FOR OVERNIGHTS
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) VERY ENJOYABLE
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any NO PROBLEMS
Other comments I WISH A BIGGER HUNTER WAS MORE AFFORDABLE
