Review of the Hunter 260 by Kent Titcomb

Year built 1998
Location of boat Jacksonville / New Smyrna Beach
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 5-6
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes,This boat is still very new so my review is incomplete.
Gear that's been added Bimini top, depth sounder
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features The things I like the most are the inboard Yanmar diesel, winged keel, wheel steering, marine head, rail seats, steppable mast, cabin and cockpit design, handeling and comfort, trailerability
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Bilge pump float switch was not fastended down properly thus bilge pump ran continuously and drained the battery.Steam / running light switch confusing designThe galley is pretty, but lacks some functionality. The cooler is located under the workspace counter - so accessing durring prepartion time is awkward. When sitting at the pedestal wheel you cannot see over the cabin. By putting the cooler on that seat with a cushion fixes things. Hmmm a factory made cooler seat here out of fiberglass would be nice.
Sailing characterisitcs Sail's great, the kids love the open transom and built in ladder and rail seats. In a stiff wind we cannot hold heading, it turns into the wind. (Safety feature perhaps?)
Motoring characterisitcs I love the inboard diesel. Since it is new I have not gone full throttle (although my friend did last weekend). The engine is very strong, smooth, and easy to start. The controls are readily available.Oh yeah, the engine sips fuel if my math is right one quart of diesel per hour. 15 gallons yields 60 hours of operation on 15 gallon tank.
Liveability Increadible liveability for a 26' boat. I have a family of 5, and we often take other friends with us. I can't believe we can all be comfortable on this compact boat.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have not done this.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought from Whitney Marine, and dealt with Tracy and Candice (the owner). This has been an extremely smooth and enjoyable purchase. They are very service oriented and their goal is customer satisfaction. We have had a few little service items and they have handled them with aplumb.
