If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, The Hunter 27 is a great first boat. Family cruising and weekend enjoyment helped our family become avid, passionate sailors. This 1984 Hunter 27 gives us roomy interior and livablity as we spend every weekend on board. Our second "home". The boat is very forgiving and we have learned a great deal about the sport and art of sailing as well as the maintanace and upkeep required. New sails, electronics give "Tiziana good resposne and sailablity. we will not tear the paint off but we can keep up and get the most out of her.
Gear that's been added 1. New fuel Tank 2. GPS Garmin 152 3. New head sail by Doyle 2 reefs full batten 4. Bilge Pump 5. teak bilge covers 6. Dansforth Anchor
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Good Space, and interior looks (teak) Very forgiveing and easy to sail thru manyu types of weather on the changing winds of the hudson river.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I am having a little problem with the Westerbeke starting. Seems the glow plug not working properly, or prime is not sufficient to start. Cranks fine but won't turnover, spray a liitle ether and cranks right up and once warm turns over right away. "WeatherHelm"!
Sailing characterisitcs Sailing the "Tiziana" first year was quite a learning curve. Lots of weather helm to help make our first blows interesting. I can say that afrter new main sail was installed, trimming and boat response is very good especially in light winds. She points up wind well in light air. In 12-15 Kts of wind she heels well and is somewhat balanced but needs constant tweeking to balance her. Over all as our confindence grows so does the performance of the boat. Although we are not gooingto break any records I feel we can sail confidently anywhere as long as we sail responcibly. This boat is very comfortrable for a couple with children. Three people for extended weekending are very comfortable
Motoring characterisitcs Motoring is OK. the westerbeke 10 Horse is a little undersize in certain conditions but is efficient. As is the case with a 2 cylinder noise can sometimes be an issue over all cruising at 2800 RPMs averaging between 4.5 and 5.1 not bad.
Liveability My wife is gormet cook and we find ourselves very comfortable on board. we have adjusted to cooking with alcohol and find with planning there is nothing we cannot cook. V berth up front is a little tight but the sette a comfortable for company. Space is a bit constricted in the cockpit but for three people so what! I don't want freinds and relatives staying over any way.
