Review of the Hunter 260 by Les

Year built 2000
Location of boat Central Point, OR
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, but we would ask more questions, had more factory options installed, and upgraded the stocksais. Would get the delivery date in writing due to the fact that the 6-week
Gear that's been added Have added a vhf radio, manual bilge pump, and 12V outlet. Plan to add stero and dual battery system.
Structural or complex improvements None yet.
The boat's best features Roomy saloon and cockpit area, wheel steering, diesel engine, marine head, standing headroom for first mate, and roomy aft cabin.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The packing bearing on the through-shaft makes a high-pitched squeeling sound and vibration when motoring over half throttle. The engine shut-off cable is already bent due to poor location.
Sailing characterisitcs Moves in light wind, and is generally a pleasure to sail. (Still learning alot!)
Motoring characterisitcs The 9.9 Yanmar motors at 5 knots quite easily; really works hard to maintain 5.5 knots.
Liveability We do alot of weekending and are very comfortable with this boat.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Made a couple of calls to verify shipping date, and the girls in the office were not real happy with us calling. They preferred to give info to the dealer only, but we were skeptical with the dealer being the middle-man when it came to the delivery date.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The dealer made it easy for us to order the boat and obtain the financing, however we have never paid 2 payments on something before even taking possession! Next time we will get EVERYTHING in writing! In the end, the dealer came through and tried to please us.
