Review of the Hunter 26 by S. Raymond

Year built 1994
Location of boat Cape Coral, Florida
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1994
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? That was the first year for the 26' and they have corrected some of the problems in later years. It's a great boat but for the rudder design and the newer ones have a wheel and a few other things. I should have waited a year but we have enjoyed the boat. It has a shallow draft for our shallow waters and it is quite a fast boat also.
Gear that's been added A storm sail, a light air sail. Screens, depth sounder, radios , gps.
Structural or complex improvements The rudder is a terrible design for that year. The center board pulleys have shifted and will have to be re fiberglassed when I have it pulled out. Too much tension on the way it was designed. The newer models have this changed.
The boat's best features Shallow draft, and easy to manuver. roomy.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Rudder, a leaky port window, the center board pulleys.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails close to the wind.
Motoring characterisitcs My little 9.9 Honda goes just fine.
Liveability Good for 2 maybe 3 people. Had to get alarger port a potty
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They have been helpful. Greg has helped me quite a bit.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any They have been helpful
