Year built 2002
Location of boat Point Roberts, WA/Vancouver
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, very happy
Gear that's been added cabin heater, refridgerator, cockpit enclosure, Cruising spinakker 2nd anchor 2 kayaks
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Easy sailing speed stability in heavy winds livability Small cockpit, easy to wedge inside when heeled Many handholds below
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Initial problem with defective battery that set off CO alarm Loose rigging needed tightening x 2 Anchor winch may be light - overheats easily
Sailing characterisitcs Sail area small in light winds but easy to supplement with cruising spinnakker, (7 knts in mod winds) Stable sailing in heavy winds even with large angles of heel. No tendency to lift out rudder and lose control despite beam.
Motoring characterisitcs Extremely good maneuverability Noise in the aft cabin good speed
Liveability Great for 2-4. Cabins light and airy good ventilation heater an asset in NW cockpit enclosure extends cruising season to nearly year round and extend living space. Refridgerator/freezer very deep, wife needs belay to reach bottom. Lots of space in cockpit locker for dingym, bikes or sails. 2 small kayaks easily stored on house alongside mast.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Had great support from dealer in Vancouver - Specialty Yachts
Other comments 356 is ideal coastal cruiser. Fun to sail, nice to live in.
