Review of the Hunter 20 by Bill Farrell

Year built 1984
Location of boat pentwater, mi
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely
Gear that's been added Running lights, Marine radio, stereo (gotta have tunes), auto-helm (got tired of the Slocum rig) large cooler for beers, wind indicator
Structural or complex improvements negative
The boat's best features The fact that one person can sail it without too much difficultly. Big enough to sleep on comfortably. Also with the swing keel you can get into shallow water or even beach the boat if you like.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The rope which raises the centerboard broke and as of this writing I need to get it fixed. I'd like to replace it with a steel cable in place of the rope.
Sailing characterisitcs I'm still a novice and don't feel qualified to answer this question. To me it sails beautifully.
Motoring characterisitcs I've got a 8hp outboard on the boat and it does the trick.
Liveability Great for weekends but I don't think I'd want to spend a summer on it....but I could if I didn't have to answer to the damn Man.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) As of this writing I have not had any dealings with them.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any no
Other comments It's a nice boat. I'd recommend it to anyone.
