Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Brad Gogats

Year built 1982
Location of boat Wilmington Island
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I do not know that I would buy this particualr boat, it was rough and required alot of work (and money) I do love the boat (now)
Gear that's been added Much, Roller Furling, VHF, Chartplotter, New Compass, New Water pump, new faucets, all new blocks, all new lines, all new Nav lights, All new plumbing lines, so many SS hose clamps I don't care to think about it, water lift muffler, water lock canister, completly rebuilt Yanmar 1GM (cost a little over 1100, no oversize pistons available any more) New headstay with sta-lock, new large head sail, new bilge pumps, all new 12volt wiring and control panel (removed rotted wood in quarter birth and replaced with lexan, highly recommend this location lots of room for expansion) new batteries, replaces all cabinet doors and made all new cabinetry for the head, shower, new sink, new stove
Structural or complex improvements Sealed bilge with weather stripping to keep bildge from dumping the small amount of water it holds every time you heel
The boat's best features It is a boat, I love to sail it
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The bilge is horribly shallow and extremly annoying, I have had every hard oil/fuel line break or crack while under way, I have removed and replaced all except injector pump to injector with teflon coated with SS wrap, very nice.
Sailing characterisitcs Weather Helm, correctable but annoying, fun as hell in waves and heavy weather, I trust the boat
Motoring characterisitcs reverse under power is tricky but can be learned,
Liveability very livable, the only thing I need to add is a hot water heater and finish the shower drain, there is no room for a sump, that I could tell, if someone has one please tell me how you did it)
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) never
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any nope
Other comments Great boat, cheap in the wood, hatches, ports, but strong hull.
