Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Tom Reynolds

Year built 1980
Location of boat Baltimore, MD
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, good deal for the money, also a good basic boat to start a refit on
Gear that's been added New cushions, VHF, am in the middle of a refit.
Structural or complex improvements Am repowering, new dual fuel tanks, new rudder, stuffing boxes, new compass, roller furling Genny
The boat's best features Good solid boat, good value for $$, Sails well ( won't win any races) Very roomy for a 27
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Engine (Renault RC8D) Underpowered, loud, vibrates, but dependable
Sailing characterisitcs Lost of weather helm originally, but solved with adjustment of rig. Comfortable, and handles heavy weather well
Motoring characterisitcs Under powered!!!!!! Am in the process of repowering.
Liveability Roomy for a 27, but I wouldn't want to live on it--not intended for this
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Helpful when I needed a new Rudder
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments I Like it!! When the refit is done I plan to keep it for a long time. Shoal draft is great in Chesapeake Bay and Tributaries
