If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I started to look for a sailboat two years ago on internet. We(me and my wife)went to visit some boat early last spring and felt in love with this Hunter 23. We spent our two last summer vacation on it to sail the Thousand Islands(from Saint-Francis lake to Brockville). We had a fire on board(alcohol stove!)and went throuh a storm and we still love to sail on it!! It is a good sailboat to learn how to sail and small enough to avoid the crowd...
Gear that's been added
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Short keel allows us to go where the other sailboats can't. Easy to trail,we may go to the Champlain lake next year. We can raise the mast easily(2 persons). We love the look of the boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The roof is a little bit to low(4'10''). Does'nt give the best performance against the wind.
Sailing characterisitcs We sail every week end,we sleep sometime on it. We spend our summer vacation on it(1 week) We went through heavy wind(more than 25 knots)and the boat was still secure
Motoring characterisitcs We use a 5hp Nissan and we can sail up the current of Cornwall(3-4 knots). Maybe a 9.9 hp would be more appropriate for heavy conditions.
Liveability Perfect for two when you spend more than the day,the chemical toilet is for emergency only! We use foldable wooden tables when it is time for a lunch in the cockpit. Overall,it is a comfortable small boat to start with.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments We appreciate the hunterowner.com website to communicate with other owners of the same model. We love the short keel and the fact that there is not many other Hunter 23 on our lake.(we saw only one last year)
