Review of the Hunter 23.5 by robert pierce

Year built 1994
Location of boat nashville tn.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes
Gear that's been added new bimini, second axle for trailer,
Structural or complex improvements second axle for trailer. before i bought the boat, i read many of the reviews here. one of the most common complaints, was that the trailer needed a second axle. i found that i didn't trust the trailer for longer trips and i am adding second axle. a cost of $1000.00 should be expected unless you have a freind in the trailer business.
The boat's best features for a boat of this length it has lots of room! light wind handling is great. trailerability.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. have had problems with the roller furler sticking. don't know if it came with the boat or it was an add on. trailer needs second axle if hunter plans to market boat as a trailerable.
Sailing characterisitcs great! quick to reef if needed. i notice many people criticize the boat for it's quick heel. after coming from day sailers with no ballast, I find the hunter 23.5 to be quite stable. sure, the boat heels, but it only goes so far and stays there.
Motoring characterisitcs fine, i have a tohatsu 8.5 and it is more than enough.
Liveability weekends for two. day sailing for four is perfect... six is a party.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) good and responsive.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments well designed and thought out boat. single axle trailer lacks, especially since hunter markets the boat as a "trailerable".
