Review of the Hunter 306 by Rob Anderson

Year built 2002
Location of boat Deltaville (Regent Point) Va.
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, we are very pleased with and proud of our 306.For the $ we wanted to spend the 306 is a great value. Not perfect ....but most boats are shy of that in some fashion, anyway.
Gear that's been added Dodger, Bimini, and connector. CD Stereo , traveler on the arch, winch and pedestal covers, reverse-cycle heat and air.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Roomy cockpit for size of boat. comfortable V-berth (longer and roomier than the 326)comfortable aft cabin. The 290 reviews talked of an inadequate galley but we find it very serviceable with adequate storage and roomy ice box. The interior upgrades in the 306 gives the boat a better fit and finish of materials and has a quality look compared to the 290. She sails well in most conditions ....good feel and responsiveness.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Some leaks initially, but all seem to have been fixed by the excellent service crew at Norton's yacht sales.
Sailing characterisitcs A bit tender but very responsive and fast.
Motoring characterisitcs Moves along well under power 6-7 Knots. Engine has a few "rough & shakey" spots in the lower RPM's but this is normal according to the dealer and other owners comments I have read on this site.
Liveability We have three ...me , wife and 12 YO daughter who sometimes brings a friend. Accomodations are good for 2-4 for overnights. The dining sette that supposedly converts to a double is a joke ....single at best. Salon gets crowded with more than four adults.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Excellent .....always courteous and resposive.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Norton's Yacht Sales in Deltaville, Va. gets high marks from start to finish. They gave us a detailed new boat orientation and have been on top of all the "break-in" issues since we closed on the boat three months ago.
Other comments So far...so good .........
