Review of the Hunter 336 by Bob Peters

Year built 1995
Location of boat Hull MA
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, no regrets except maybe paid a little too much.
Gear that's been added Have added no major gear. Did move radar display from nav station to cockpit.
Structural or complex improvements Not yet. Will be moving topping lift to run to cockpit.
The boat's best features Cabin layout is efficient and comfortable. Although never alone aboard, I can single hand the boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Having syphon break over engine is bad design; it leaked on top engine and now area around 3rd injector is rusted. Internal screw punctured hole throguh hull; the screws holding down teak sole panel at foot of bow berth are much longer than they have to be; a little hull flexing resulted in screw workign its way through. Nav tables should face forward. All 3 tank sensors have been problematical.
Sailing characterisitcs Daysails to multi-week voyages with overnight legs; sailed in Gulf of Maine, Mass Bay, Cape Cod Bay, Buzzards Bay and Narragansett Bay. Conditions from calm to 30 k winds. Averaging 3 miles off shore but have been up to 20 miles out.
Motoring characterisitcs Motors fine.
Liveability Very liveable for two; with four aboard with gear it does get a little crowded.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Customer service has been very good generally. I would have appreciated a little more pro-active advice or help on hull hole problem.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Seacoast Marine guys were great; realize they represent the seller so can't fault them for my paying a few grand too much.
