Review of the Hunter 280 by Pete

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes,definitely. It is a very fast vessel,has ample room for my wife and I,(and our Beagle).  
Gear that's been added Macerator pump & thru hull. In process of installing solar panel.  
Structural or complex improvements no  
The boat's best features Solid,seaworthy boat. Nice roomy head, comfortable cabin,and again, it is a very fast sailing boat-7.2 knots in about 15 knots of wind.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The sink in the head shower attatchment is not working,but the boat sat idle for a year prior to our purchase.  
Sailing characterisitcs With the full batten main,the boat is a little tender from what we sailed before.I will be reefing a little early until we get used to the power in the main!  
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar 18 Hp has run beautifully.(1998) We had some worries after sitting so long if it would give us a problem on our 300 mile trip home. We only had one incident where we were motoring into strong headwinds and current,trying to make a bridge opening and the engine overheated at 3600 RPM's. No furhter problems were experienced,and we are most happy with the motoring aspects of the H280.  
Liveability WE have spent 5 days and nights on the H280 and found it to be just the right size for us. The galley,head and cabin spces are very satisfactory,as well as the nice large cockpit.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have called Hunter several times to ask questions and order parts. .Very satisfied with their response,and parts were shipped quickly.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Yes, Whitney Marine in Orange Park Florida. Great bunch of folks from the owner,right down the line. Most accomodating in all requests and would certainly buy another Hunter from them.  
Other comments No,other than we couldn't be happier than when we are out sailing Eastern Sky!
