Review of the Hunter 376 by Jeff

Year built 1998
Location of boat Long Beach, Calif
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Definitely. I did pretty extensive shopping for different types of boats in this size range and the 376 has really been great.
Gear that's been added Changed from dutchman to lazyjack system. Hunter went back to lazyjacks on the 380, which is basically the same boat as the 376, so what does that tell you?
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Ease of handling under sail and power. So far I have had her out in 20 knots beam reach and have not considered reefing. However, I would have reefed at about 18 knots if I was any closer to the wind.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. None, so far. Fingers crossed.
Sailing characterisitcs As above.
Motoring characterisitcs Backs and motors smoothly. Very nice.
Liveability Exceptional. I showered onboard for the first time yesterday. It was no problem at all. ( Much better than the public showers at Isthmus, Catalina !) Tons of storage. Great layout.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have not dealt with Hunter.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any No.
Other comments Very happy so far. I plan to become a part-time liveaboard in the next few months and this seems to be a great boat for it.
