Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Bill Evans

Year built 1982
Location of boat Watergate Yaching Club
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1995
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. I was told that this year model fiberglass hull was 'hand laid up' and very strong. My wife and I enjoy bay sailing. Late summer evenings and cool fall weather days are our favorites.
Gear that's been added No. We have just upgraded the existing gear. New bimini and sail covers. Our Hunter was equiped with dock side 9,000 btu ac/heatpump, autohelm 4000 gear operated auto-pilot and roller gib sail.
Structural or complex improvements No.
The boat's best features It's the ideal size for our type of sailing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The plactic porthole covers are beginning to crack and some need replacing.
Sailing characterisitcs Since we only bay sail, the characteristics we have experienced have been wonderful. I would like to sail her to Galveston and on to New Orleans some time in the near future.
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar 7 HP one cylinder diesel seems a little slow. However, I am considering a 3 bladed prop. Maybe that will help.
Liveability We do not live aboard. However, we stay aboard on weekends and find it very comfortable.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very good. Right now I wish Hunter had a copy of the wiring diagram for our sailboat, since I am installing new breakers and cannot find a wiring diagram for the switch panel. The previous owners made modifications that are very hard to follow and I would like to bring it back to builder specifications.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The experience was good. We bought from a used boat dealer at Watergate Yachting Center.
Other comments It is a good value for the money and has become a part of the family. We previously owned Hunter 25 foot tiller and we much prefer the wheel boat.
