Owner bought the boat in 1994
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, and yes again. I have said this to many people: the Hunter 25.5 is theperfect pocket cruiser! We love the boatso much, that selling her is very difficult. We'd rather sail her than show her. Ifnot for the fact that we want to sail theGreat Lakes and costal regions, we wouldnever even consider a larger Hunter.
Gear that's been added We've added a whisker pole, a small electricfresh water pump, knot and depth logs,2group 31 batteries,a lexan hatch, and acanvas for the pop top.We also have harken roller furling.
Structural or complex improvements We had to beef up the fiberglass aroundthe port winch. So far the starboard side has been fine.
The boat's best features For a small cruiser, she sure is fast.We pass a lot of boats. She is also pretty stiff for a lite displacement boat. Withthe furling she is easy to single hand, and she goes to windward really well!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We are getting alot of spidering aroundthe cockpit. I also wish we had a largeroutboard. You don't want to be afraid oftight places, when you sleep in the aftberth.
Sailing characterisitcs We don't go out in strong winds. It is to unsettleing for my lovely wife. As faras I'm concerned, she handles all pointsof sail well. On the lake, the wind shiftscan really keep you on your toes or driveyou crazy, depending on your mood. She reefs well enough, but I'd like anotherreef put in the main.
Motoring characterisitcs My wife is the Captain once the motor starts. She does all the docking and anchoring. She has no trouble. If we getcaught out in heavy tailing winds,we havehad the boat cavitate now and then.
Liveability We added a small colapseble shelf to thehead of the V-berth giving us a littlemore space for our feet, which made sleep-ing so much more comfortable. With ourMagma grill and 90 qt.cooler,we have beenable to stay out for 5 days before wehad to come in for ice. We were out for 9 days with fresh food the whole time, and had no problems with storage. Theaddition of a sun shower made showeringon our little boat possible. She is a perfect pocket cruiser!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They have always been very helpful. Wedidn't get owners manuels with our boat,so we had lots of questions.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any It was great for us. We traded our 18'Capri for the 25.5.
