Review of the Hunter 19_93-96 by Allen Nowell

Year built 1995
Location of boat lake norman and atlantic ocean
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes
Gear that's been added lazy jacks, compass, sextant
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features esthetics, on a ten day cruise from Charleston,SC to points south I had three people on larger boats say to me "now thats a pretty boat", my immediate reply was, "Well I'll Trade Ya." but I got no takers because all the other boats were at least 36 footers.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing, even in six foot seas there has never been one drop of water in the bilge.
Sailing characterisitcs Slight weather helm in high winds but this boat will take care of even the most inexperienced sailor.
Motoring characterisitcs Does not motor well but I only start the motor once a year to make sure it functions properly in case of an emergency.
Liveability I spent 10 days on the tiny tannic with a good friend sailing from Charleston to Kiawah, Seabrook, Edisto, and several other Islands south of Charleston, as long as we docked at least once every two days everything was fine, any more people aboard on this trip we would have had to be REALLY GOOD FRIENDS!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Excellent. On the two times I've called Hunter, I've never even been put on hold, and all the information I have requested (both times for spreader parts) has been immediate and accurate and the parts have arrived at my door within four days.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Unfortunately, the broker I worked with Strictly Nautical seems to have gone out of business but I'm sure this was the easiest sale he had ever made because I walked in and said "How about I buy this boat."
Other comments I love it, but I can see the time coming when a larger boat will be required.
