Review of the Hunter 22 by David

Year built 1982
Location of boat St. Augustine, FL
The boat is sailed on Rivers
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, although I might trade in my kids for new ones if they don't learn to love sailing!
Gear that's been added VHF, CD Radio, Roller Furling
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Easy to single hand, just a super boat to sail. Heels a bit quickly, but once I get over that little "fear" it's a blast.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Periodically the bilge has about an inch of water in it. Not sure what it's from but I think it's condensation from our Florida humidity. I've checked after one of our famous storms and she will be bone dry. Very odd.
Sailing characterisitcs Pretty slow on a run, need to head off a little and it's a much better sail. VERY tough to sail in heavy winds. The fact that I have a roller furling jib makes it tough in high winds; even with a reef and half the jib out it can be pretty wild. Any less than half the jib out and it's useless, might as well pull it in.
Motoring characterisitcs Fine, but like any OB it's tough to keep in the water when choppy.
Liveability Can't live on it. But it's fun to hang out on the dock and have a few beers on.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Once, they were fine.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
