Review of the Hunter 22 by Patrick Cronin

Year built 1983
Location of boat Ocean Springs, MS
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutly! It is a great little boat and just what we (the wife and I) needed.
Gear that's been added None but looking to add some in the future.
Structural or complex improvements None at this time.
The boat's best features I really like the size. I had a 27 ft. and found it was bigger than needed. I like the swing keel and rudder for going into shallow water and going to our outter islands.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Everything seems to work fine. I have some interior leaks from rain but other than that everthing is fine.
Sailing characterisitcs I think it sails very well. It doesn't point as well as I would like and I think that is because of the swing keel. I think if it had a fixed keel it would point better. I do not want to trade the fixed keel feature for the point capability.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a Johnson Sailmaster 8.0 and it does just fine. I try to avoid using it as much as possible.
Liveability You could spend the night on board but that's about it. You wouldn't really want to live on board because it is so small. I think it would be comfortable to spend the night aboard though I have never done so.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments I bought the boat from a fellow who's wife didn't like to sail. This is the second boat I have bought from a fellow who's wife doesn't like to sail. I am a very lucky man because my wife loves to sail. In fact, I think she likes it more than I do!
