Review of the Hunter 23 by fletchdoggie

Year built 1986
Location of boat st. simons island georgia
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I did.
Gear that's been added not yet.
Structural or complex improvements no.
The boat's best features The price.3000.00
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The depth finder was hard to read, the quit working.
Sailing characterisitcs I have had a blast on this boat. My only bad experience has been getting sandbarred and have to wait until the tide came in.
Motoring characterisitcs Well,I had a 15 hp merc. 2stroke the first time i bought it. it was underpowered for the fast tides here. Now it has a tohatsu 15 four stroke.I havent tried it out yet.The previous owner let the boat deteriate and i am almost finished the cosmetics.
Liveability I threw away the water tank, thinking I would not need it.And the stove has never been used. But the cabin is roomy for a small boat and the upper berth can sleep 2.My wife and I sleep aboard on weekends at the dock.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Called concerning a new motor. Did not kn0w what size max motor i could use.Guess I found out for myself. but they were pleasant.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I would never buy from a dealer. Isold used cars once so i know all the tricks.
Other comments For the age it has held up fairly well under the enviroment down here in s. ga. I am having some minor seepage around the thru hull bolts to the keel. I probably will haulout at summers end.Does anyone know the weight of the keel?Besidesthat the boat has a certain personality about it.It is somewhat slow too.
