Review of the Hunter 22 by Bob Pellegrino

Year built 1981
Location of boat Northport Bay Long Island
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would. It is a Great boat.
Gear that's been added A GPS & pilot compass
Structural or complex improvements Nothing major, the boat is pretty much stock but is showing signs of ware. It can use some cosmetic touch-ups on the deck and on the corners of the hull
The boat's best features This was my first sailboat and it was/is a terrific experience! The boat is very forgiving and virtually impossible to get into trouble with. It reminds me of a Cessna 172 airplane, if you let go of the controls the thing will "right itself" basically, the design of this sailboat was very well thought out; its a great boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The sink faucett doesn't work. It will not pump water from the water tank. I moved the Circuit box because it was placed in a poor place very close to the floor where water destroyed it.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs Can use a more powerful outboard; my Yachtmaster at 7hp gets me to about 6.5 which is pretty slow.
Liveability Great for overnight or 2 days...
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Not bad, they will try to help you in a minimalistic kind of way....lets face it the boat is old and they really aren't too interested.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Private sale and the previous owner was great.
Other comments I'm sold on this manufacturer...I am looking for a newer model right now...I love my Hunter 22!
