The boat's best features The 18.5 was a great boat. She was very stable and very quick. A great bought for two adults and a child as a first boat. We bought the 18.5 because it was relatively inexpensive and gave us an opportunity (without a lot of debt) to find out if we really wanted to commit to sailing. We did and kept the boat only one year. We bought a Beneteau 265 in 1993 and are in the process of purchasing a Hunter 310. We are glad to be back with Hunter. If you are just starting in sailing and want and excellent boat, I reccommend the Hunter 18.5.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I had no brealage.
Sailing characterisitcs Very quick, very stable.
Motoring characterisitcs I had no reverse with the 3.5 HP motor. It wasn't pleasant.
