Review of the Hunter 30_74-83 by Bob

Year built 1977
Location of boat Newburyport Ma
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added Vhf, gps, dodger, auto helm, furling, radar, and an inverter
Structural or complex improvements Not really, just upgraded the fuel filters
The boat's best features This is a very forgiving boat. Have been caught in some nasty stuff and came through very well, very livable for a costal cruiser.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The same thing everyone else complains about, and that is the underpowered, over vibrating ysb 12!!!
Sailing characterisitcs Very good, does not point as well as the 27 O-Day that I had. Sails itself on a reach.
Motoring characterisitcs Truely an un nerving experiance. Will rattle your teeth pretty good, and take forever to do it.
Liveability Not bad, though that walk into the head will rattle your brains if you are 6' tall and forget to duck.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have not
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Private sale
Other comments The cooling system does not generate enough heat to make the hot water heater work. In board sheeting from the factory would be nice, this would help in the pointing department.
