Year built 1974
Location of boat Dartmouth , Massachusetts
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1991
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I would buy this boat again. It is very good value for the size and performance.
Gear that's been added I have fully referbished this boat. I use this boat for weekending and racing. I will tell you this ......It is very impressive for its size and price when it comes to performance. It can put alot of very expensive boats to shame on the race course. My boat has a full compliment of sails 150% 135% 100% full batten main light air spin and cruising spin. In addition to sail inventory she has a new head, sink, compass, 15hp eng, motor mount, hallyards, sheets, GPS chartplotter, cushions and some special modification kinda invented over time to increase performance.
Structural or complex improvements Yes, she has a spinaker launch tube that sits in the deck to launch spinakers from, an elaborate jib sheet network of pully placement, 2 coolers built in under seats, converted to propane stove and grill with built in tank, an extended keel the long way and larger rudder to reduce comming to weather.
The boat's best features It is a very good value. She is reasonably fast and roomy at the same time.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. This boat comes to weather too easily. However, all you have to do is extend keel size a bit and add a larger rudder and this will improve greatly. A good cheap way to do this is using the west system and adding a few inches to the back of the keel and sharpen the front of the keel a bit as well. This greatly improves performance.
Sailing characterisitcs Comes to weather to easily. However she rides nice.
Motoring characterisitcs She moves greatly with a 15 hp even leaves a wake very impressive
Liveability ok for weekends but i'm 6'3" and i like to travel with others too small for me moving up next year, but it is a very rommy boat for its size and year.
