Review of the Hunter 31_83-87 by Dan Frost

Year built 1985
Location of boat Charlestown MD
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 5-6
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I got it for a reasonable price and she has performed well. I do have some moisture that has found its way to the core of the deck in a few spots. Several other minor problems which are probably typical for a 16 year old boat.
Gear that's been added Have added a solid state battery charger, big improvement. Purchased a handheld GPS unit.
Structural or complex improvements Nothing major.
The boat's best features Affordable and very attractive 31 foot sailboat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Kitchen sink seacock broke this season. Many external pieces are worn and weathered and need replacing. Biggest problem is water damage to core material and some small leaks that have penetrated the main cabin.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs Good strong Yanmar diesel. I wish it was just a bit bigger.
Liveability I've had her out for a three day weekend in Baltimore. Very comfortable for three adults. Also plenty of room for the kids and two adults. Pantry is adequate, oven and stove work well. Fridge is difficult to access and make good use out of.
