Review of the Hunter 33_77-83 by David Mccollough

Year built 1979
Location of boat savannah, ga.
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Damn right. Absolutely the most boat you can get for the money. A quick sailor and powered right.
Gear that's been added Nope can't come up with anything to add I haven't got
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features The accomodations are terrific. Plenty of space to appease my first mate and good performance for me.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I don't like the fact that the rudder is the same length as the keel. and the hatch is a poor design.
Sailing characterisitcs I can't fault any of her sailing abilities. She'll give em all a run for the money.
Motoring characterisitcs She has great power with a 20 hp Yanmar that's never given the first problem. If I had to find fault it would be in the whine of the trans.
Liveability You can crowd six but you wouldn't want to. To me there's the space of a larger boat and good storage to boot.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments She's forgiving and in my eyes the best production boat available. About 22 years old and as good or better than new. Better cause there is probably more fiber-glass there than new boats. Overall I think she could compete in any aspect with a much newer boat. And where else can you get a boat capable of comfortably cruising or live-aboard for <20 grand.
